Exploring the Impact of the RUSH Online System at Shaga Greens Ltd
A recent visit to Shaga Greens Ltd by a team from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) Uganda and Hortifresh association alongside representatives from SwissContact and ThinkIT, aimed to explore the integration of the RUSH Online system within the company’s packhouse operations. The visit provided insights into how this digital platform is transforming fresh fruits and vegetable (FFV) exports in Uganda.
Shaga Greens Ltd – one of the leading exporters of garden eggs, okra, and avocados – has established itself in international markets through strict adherence to high-quality standards. The company demonstrated the RUSH Online system, a tool designed to streamline and digitize each stage of the export process, from production to airlifting. The system enables real-time tracking and management of all supply chain data, ensuring full traceability and operational efficiency.
The company’s agronomist explained that the digitalization of processes through the RUSH Online system has greatly improved data management, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring compliance with international standards. This is especially critical for Uganda’s FFV sector, where maintaining quality is essential to meet the expectations of export markets in Europe and the Middle East.
The visit also emphasized the importance of collaboration. Organizations like MAAIF Uganda, SwissContact, Hortifresh and ThinkIT are playing a key role in facilitating the adoption of innovative digital solutions by providing training and technical support. These partnerships are crucial in enabling companies like Shaga Greens to compete globally while building a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural ecosystem in Uganda.
The integration of the RUSH Online system at Shaga Greens Ltd marks a positive step toward the modernization of Uganda’s FFV export industry. As more companies adopt such digital tools, the sector is expected to see increased traceability, transparency, and operational efficiency, strengthening its position in global markets. Continued collaboration between key stakeholders will be instrumental in ensuring the long-term growth and success of Uganda’s agricultural exports.
